Image-Guided Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation Assistance System

Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) is a recently developed surgical technique to treat symptomatic aortic valve stenosis in elderly and high-risk patients (Eltchaninoff et al., 2008; Ferrari & von Segesser, 2010). Compared to the standard aortic valve replacement surgery, the TAVI limits the surgical access to either a small minithoracotomy (transapical TAVI) or femoral approach (tr...

Transseptal closure of left ventricular pseudoaneurysm post-transapical transcatheter aortic valve replacement.

A n 81-year-old woman presented for a scheduled 1-month follow-up after an uneventful valve-in-valve transapical transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TA-TAVR) using a 23-mm Sapien XT prosthesis (Edwards Lifesciences, Irvine, California). Although the patient remained asymptomatic after discharge, a transthoracic echocardiogram revealed a left ventricular (LV) pseudoaneurysm, with a 10-mm nec...

Successful transapical aortic valve replacement in a patient with a previous mechanical mitral valve replacement.

In this case we illustrate our experience with transapical minimal invasive aortic valve replacement in a patient who previously underwent mitral valve replacement. The implantation did not interfere with the existing prosthesis and could even be used as a further landmark, helping height positioning of the aortic valve.

Stroke Cerebral Embolization During Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation A Transcranial Doppler Study

Background—Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) is associated with a higher risk of neurological events for both the transfemoral and transapical approach than surgical valve replacement. Cerebral magnetic resonance imaging has revealed more new, albeit clinically silent lesions from procedural embolization, yet the main source and predominant procedural step of emboli remain unclear....
